How ChronoChat handles your data

Plain-English answers about what happens to your files, your messages, and your payment details.

The short version: Your chat file is processed to create your PDF. Once that is done, your uploaded file is deleted immediately. Your output is available for up to 1 hour, then automatically removed. We never store, read, or share your messages for any other purpose.

What we process

When you upload a WhatsApp export, ChronoChat temporarily handles the following:

The chat text file — to extract messages, timestamps, and sender names
Photos (Pro plan only) — to embed in your PDF
Voice notes (Pro plan only) — to transcribe using OpenAI Whisper
Videos (Pro plan only) — to rename chronologically and include in your ZIP

We do not read, index, or analyse any other content in your upload.

What we do not keep

We do not store your messages after your export is generated
We do not create user accounts or link exports to any identity
We do not use your content for advertising, profiling, or training AI models
We do not sell or share your data with anyone (other than the processors listed below)
We do not use cookies for tracking — only a temporary session token to link your upload to your payment

Retention and deletion

Your uploaded file is held in temporary storage only for as long as it takes to process. Once processing finishes, it is deleted from our servers immediately.

Your generated output file — the PDF or ZIP — is kept available for up to 1 hour so you can download it. After that, it is automatically and permanently deleted.

You can also delete your output at any time using the Delete now button on the results page.

Payments handled securely by Stripe

Pro plan payments are handled entirely by Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment processors. Your card details, billing address, and payment information never reach our servers — they go directly to Stripe.

We receive only confirmation that a payment was successful. Stripe's own security standards (PCI DSS Level 1) protect your payment data.

Voice note transcription (Pro)

For Pro exports, voice note audio clips are sent to the OpenAI Whisper API for transcription. OpenAI's data handling policies apply to audio processed through their API. Under current API terms, audio is not used to train OpenAI's models.

Transcripts are embedded in your PDF and are not retained by ChronoChat after your export is generated.

Hosting

ChronoChat runs on Railway, a cloud infrastructure provider. Files are processed on Railway's servers. Railway's terms and privacy policy apply at the infrastructure level.

Encryption

All uploads and downloads use HTTPS. Data in transit is encrypted. Files on the server are stored on encrypted infrastructure managed by Railway.
