Before you upload

How do I export a WhatsApp chat?

On iPhone or Android, open the conversation you want to export. Tap the contact or group name at the top, then scroll down to find Export chat. WhatsApp will give you the option to include or exclude media.

You will receive a .zip file. That is the file ChronoChat needs.

Should I include media when exporting?

It depends on your plan:

If you are unsure, include media. ChronoChat will only use what it needs.

Plans and pricing

What does Free include?

The Free plan gives you a clean, chronological PDF of all text messages — including timestamps and sender names. Photos, videos, and voice notes are shown as placeholders so you can see what exists, but the media itself is not included.

What does Pro include?

Pro unlocks everything in the export:

Pro is a one-time payment of £4.99 per export, processed securely by Stripe.

Why are videos delivered in a ZIP?

PDFs do not support embedded video playback in a useful way. Instead, Pro exports bundle your videos in a separate folder inside a ZIP file, renamed chronologically so you can find each clip easily. The ZIP also contains your full PDF, so everything is in one download.

How do voice note transcripts work?

For Pro exports, ChronoChat sends each voice note audio clip to the OpenAI Whisper API, which converts speech to text. The transcript is then embedded directly below the voice note in your PDF, so the conversation reads naturally.

Transcription accuracy depends on audio quality and speaking clarity. ChronoChat does not edit or filter transcripts — they reflect exactly what Whisper hears.

Privacy and retention

How long is my export stored?

Your uploaded file is deleted from our server immediately after processing completes. Your generated output (PDF or ZIP) is available to download for up to 1 hour, after which it is automatically deleted. You can also delete it immediately using the Delete now button shown after your export is ready.

Can I delete my export from the server?

Yes. The page shown after your export is generated includes a Delete now button. Clicking it permanently removes your output file from our servers immediately, before the automatic 1-hour cleanup.

Troubleshooting

What happens if payment succeeds but something goes wrong?

If your payment goes through but your export fails due to a technical error on our side, please contact us with your export details. We will investigate and resolve it — either by reprocessing your export or issuing a refund.

Refunds are not offered for successfully generated exports, but any failure caused by a system error will be made right.

Do I need an account?

No. ChronoChat does not have accounts. You upload, choose a plan, and download — nothing else is required. We do not store your email address or any personal information beyond what is needed to process your export.

My upload failed — what should I do?

Make sure you are uploading the original .zip file created by WhatsApp. Do not unzip it first, and do not rename it. If the error persists, contact support with a description of the error message you see.
